Women's Soccer: Conference Road Trip for Evergreen

COMING UP: The Evergreen State College plays its first two Cascade Collegiate Conference matches of the season this weekend when it faces Eastern Oregon in La Grande, Ore., on Friday and Warner Pacific in Portland, Ore., on Saturday. The Eastern Oregon match kicks off at 3:30 p.m. and the Warner contest is slated for an 8 p.m. start at the Portland Adventist School field.

ABOUT THE GEODUCKS: Evergreen enters conference play with a 0-3 record after non-conference losses to Linfield (3-0), Great Falls (1-0) and Western Oregon (1-0). The Geoducks are in search of their first goal after 270 scoreless minutes and look to get their offense untracked this weekend. Through three matches opponents have taken 49 shots compared to 20 for the Geoducks. Evergreen juniors Kayla Baskett and Alison Mackey have seen action in goal for Evergreen, Baskett compiling a 2.00 goals against average with seven saves while playing 180 minutes and Mackey notching a 1.00 goals against average in 90 minutes.

ABOUT EASTERN OREGON: The Mountaineers are 5-0 this season, all in non-conference play, and have outscored their opponents 33-2. It should be noted that EOU has scored a total of 23 goals in 13-0 and 10-0 wins over the fledgling Sierra Nevada College team, and six more goals in a whitewash of Mills College. The Mountaineers have taken 138 shots in the five matches compared to 15 for their opponents. Zoe Anderson has scored seven goals to lead the team and a total of 14 different players have put the ball in the back of the net. The goalkeeping duties have been shared by three players with veteran Jessica Parker getting the majority of the minutes and compiling a 0.57 goals against average.

ABOUT WARNER PACIFIC: The Knights, who open their conference season on Friday afternoon against defending conference champion Northwest University. Warner Pacific and Evergreen have played one common opponent this year, Western Oregon, and both lost. Warner dropped a 7-0 decision in Monmouth, Ore., on Sept. 3, while the Geoducks fell to the Wolves, 1-0, this past Monday. Warner has been outscored 10-2 this season.

PRESEASON POLL: In a preseason poll of Cascade Collegiate Conference women's soccer coaches, Evergreen has been picked to finish 10th in the 12-team league. The Geoducks, who just missed out on the 2014 conference postseason tournament following a 3-5-1 CCC record and seventh-place finish, received a total of 46 points. Defending conference champion Northwest received 10 first-place votes and 140 points, followed by Corban with no first-place votes and 123 points, and conference newcomer Carroll College with two first-place votes and 117 points. Great Falls, Evergreen's opponent on Saturday, received 54 total votes and ranked ninth in the preseason poll. Evergreen's weekend opponents, Eastern Oregon and Warner Pacific, were selected seventh (66 points) and eighth (62 points), respectively.

BACK HOME: Evergreen plays its first conference home match at noon on Saturday, Sept. 26, against the Northwest University Eagles.
