ABOUT THE GEODUCKS:Â Evergreen brings a 2-5-1 overall record and a 0-4-1 mark in conference play into the weekend action. Despite solid play this season, the one thing that a team needs to win a game the Geoducks haven't been able to produce in conference play. Through their five CCC matches they have yet to score a goal. Evergreen has shown the ability to score goals, however, with eight total in its eight matches. All eight of those came in back-to-back victories (3-1 over Sierra Nevada and 5-3 against Pacific) during the first week of the season. On the positive side, statistics show an Evergreen team that is not that far behind its opponents in total shots while getting more of their attempts on target. Evergreen is averaging 11.4 shots per game and they are putting 43 percent of those efforts on frame, while their opponents are getting an average of 15.5 shots with 40 percent of those listed as shots on goal. Junior midfielder
Haleigh Ryneski (Wasilla, Alaska/Bonney Lake, WA HS) leads the Geoducks with two goals, while senior forward
Ellie Engel (Sandpoint, Idaho/Sandpoint HS/North Idaho College), junior midfielder
Kylie Gorton (Moscow, Idaho/Moscow HS/Walla Walla CC) and freshman midfielder
Delaney Rice (Arcata, Calif./Arcata HS) all have tallied one goal and one assist. Defensively, senior goalkeeper
Kayla Baskett (Seattle, Wash./Holy Names Academy) has one shutout and a 1.70 goals against average.
DEFENSIVE STRENGTH:Â Evergreen's defense has been well anchored by goalkeeper
Kayla Baskett and its two central backs, senior
Loren Switzer (Olympia, Wash./Capital HS) and freshman
Taylor Germer (Vancouver, Wash./Heritage HS). All three of these players have been on the field for all 740 minutes of Evergreen's matches thus far.
ABOUT THE SAINTS:Â Carroll, the defending conference regular season and tournament champion, receives votes in the NAIA Top 25 national poll and currently sits atop the CCC table with 19 points from a 6-0-1 record. Its overall record is 9-3-1, including a perfect 6-0-0 in road contests. While the Saints don't pepper the opponent's goal, averaging 1.69 goals per match, the defense is outstanding as shown by a 0.62 goals against average. Michaela Kueffler is the team's leading scorer with six goals in 13 matches, followed by Payton Netz with four goals. Kueffler ranks fourth in the conference in total points with 15 on her six goals and three assists, and she is tied for first in the conference with four match-winning goals. Goalie Jamie Carter has a 0.62 goals against average and is tied for the conference lead with seven shutouts.
LAST YEAR: Carroll defeated Evergreen, 2-0, in a conference game played last Oct. 16 in Helena, Mont.
ABOUT THE ARGOS:Â Great Falls (2-8-0 overall, 2-5-0 CCC) sits in a seventh-place tie in the conference standings and is 2-4-0 on the road. Prior to Saturday's match against Evergreen, Great Falls will play Northwest University in Kirkland. The Argos come to the Pacific Northwest after nearly pulling off an upset of Carroll, eventually losing 2-1 in overtime, last week. Great Falls is tied with Evergreen for fewest goals score, but its eight goals have come in 10 matches compared to eight goals in eight matches for the Geoducks. The Argos also have the CCC's worst goals against average at 2.31 compared to 1.70 for Evergreen. Goalkeeper Kyra Dorvall leads the league with 7.90 saves per match, while Eme McLaughlin and Malena Lennon are tied for the team lead with two goals each.
LAST YEAR: Great Falls beat the Geoducks twice last year, taking a 1-0 non-conference decision on Sept. 5 in Olympia and a 4-1 conference decision on Oct. 17 in Great Falls.
