ABOUT THE GEODUCKS:Â Evergreen takes a 2-3-1 overall record and a 0-2-1 mark in conference play into Ashland, Ore., on Friday. The Geoducks, who did not play last week, have scored eight goals in six matches, all eight coming in back-to-back victories (3-1 over Sierra Nevada and 5-3 against Pacific). Most recently, the Geoducks have been shut out three consecutive matches, all in conference play. On the positive side, the team hasn't been without scoring opportunities in those matches, and in fact had more shots on goal in its most recent contest at Northwest until the Eagles finally broke through for a pair of goals late in the match. Statistics show an Evergreen team that is nearly matching its opponents in total shots while getting more of its attempts on target. While opponents have put 37 of 88 attempts on target for 42 percent, the Geoducks have put 35 of their 78 shots on frame, or 45 percent. Evergreen has been outscored, 10-8, through six matches. Junior midfielder
Haleigh Ryneski (Wasilla, Alaska/Bonney Lake, WA HS) leads the Geoducks with two goals, while senior forward
Ellie Engel (Sandpoint, Idaho/Sandpoint HS/North Idaho College), junior midfielder
Kylie Gorton (Moscow, Idaho/Moscow HS/Walla Walla CC) and freshman midfielder
Delaney Rice (Arcata, Calif./Arcata HS) all have tallied one goal and one assist. Rice and Engel lead the team with 14 and 13 shots, respectively. Senior midfielder
Laura Barnes (Snoqualmie, Wash./Mt. Si HS/Bellevue College) leads the team in shots per match with 3.33. Defensively, senior goalkeeper
Kayla Baskett (Seattle, Wash./Holy Names Academy) averages 4.17 saves per match, has one shutout, and has accumulated a 1.61 goals against average.
DEFENSIVE STRENGTH:Â Evergreen's defense has been well anchored by goalkeeper
Kayla Baskett and its two central backs, senior
Loren Switzer (Olympia, Wash./Capital HS) and freshman
Taylor Germer (Vancouver, Wash./Heritage HS). All three of these players have been on the field for all 560 minutes of Evergreen's matches thus far.
ABOUT THE RAIDERS: Southern Oregon is off to a tremendous start in conference play with a 4-0-0 record, outscoring those four opponents by a combined 10-0. With a 7-3-1 overall record, the Raiders received votes in the NAIA Top 25 national poll. The team's only three losses have been to NCAA Division II opponents, and the Raiders have outscored their NAIA competition, 21-1, this season. Southern Oregon has scored 23 goals while allowing 10 – with seven shutouts – in its 11 matches. Interestingly, the Raiders are 10th in the 11-team league with an average of just 12.18 shots per match. Evergreen, on the other hand, averages 13.0 shots per contest. Veteran goalkeeper Kylie Moltzen has notched six shutouts and has a 1.03 goals against average this season. Megan McArthur is the driving force behind the offense with six goals and two assists. Other top offensive threats are Facienne Graham with three goals and two assists, Kelsey Randall and Lauren Aldana with three goals each, and Lisa Elledge and Presley Lambert with three assists apiece.
RECENT RESULTS: Southern Oregon has had the better of this matchup in recent years with eight straight victories. Evergreen's most recent win in the series came by a 2-0 score in 2007.
ABOUT THE OWLS: Oregon Tech has a 0-3-1 conference record, a 2-8-1 overall mark, and it has managed a 1-3-1 record in home contests. The Owls play Northwest University on Friday prior to hosting the Geoducks on Saturday. The team has scored 18 goals and allowed 24 in its 11 matches, though this seems to be an offensive-minded team with an average of 16.5 shots per match, third best among CCC teams. Oregon Tech has the third worst goals against average – 2.12 – of the 11 conference teams. Individually, Cassidy Gosvener leads the way with three goals and two assists, while Jodie Reoch tops the squad with three assists.
TWO IN A ROW: Evergreen has won the last two meetings with the Owls, taking a 1-0 overtime victory last year after a 2-0 triumph in Klamath Falls in 2014. Over the last nine games dating back to 2007, Oregon Tech has won five, Evergreen four.
