Box Score
SEATTLE - The Evergreen State College played NCAA Division I opponent Seattle University in a women's basketball exhibition game on Saturday afternoon and dropped a 75-46 decision to the Redhawks.
The host Redhawks opened the scoring and the Geoducks were unable to either tie the score or take the lead. Seattle's largest lead was the final victory margin - 29 points.
Evergreen was within 12 points at the half, trailing 32-20, and owed that to an outstanding opening 20 minutes from
Autumn Moorcroft. The senior forward scored 13 of her 14 points and had four of her eight rebounds in the first two quarters.
Freshman guard
Zaria Jones heated up in the final two quarters and ended up tying Moorcroft for team-high scoring honors, both with 14 points. Jones was 2-for-3 from beyond the three-point line. Moorcroft's eight rebounds led the Geoducks in that category.Â
Evergreen shot just 29 percent (13-for-45) from the field and 67 percent (16-for-24) from the charity stripe. The Geoducks battled the Redhawks to a near deadlock on the backboards, Seattle owning a slim 34--29 advantage.Â
The Geoducks will have to clean things up in the turnover department as their 29 turnovers led to 28 Seattle points.
Evergreen officially opens its 2016-17 season next Friday and Saturday at the Adidas Northwest Classic hosted by Northwest University in Kirkland. The Geoducks play Montana State-Northern at 5:30 p.m. Friday and Great Falls at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
