Box Score OLYMPIA – Visiting Eastern Oregon scored a pair of second half goals to defeat The Evergreen State College, 2-0, in the Cascade Collegiate Conference women's soccer opener played Friday afternoon at Geoduck Pitch.
After a scoreless first half that saw the Mountaineers (4-2-1 overall, 1-0-0 CCC) enjoy a 7-3 advantage in shots, they finally broke through against the scrappy Evergreen (2-2-0, 0-1-0) defense at the 67:15 mark when Alexandra Cuaresma latched on to a loose ball at the top of the box and drilled it home. Cuaresma's blast was just beyond the reach of Geoducks keeper
Kayla Baskett and just under the cross bar.
Less than two minutes later – in fact at 68:53 – Eastern Oregon got its second goal. Makensie Forsythe passed to Anna Roslander, who fired home from about 10 yards out at a sharp right angle.
The goals were with the run of play in the secod period as the Mountaineers took seven shots to Evergreen's two. The final shot tally showed Eastern Oregon with a 14-5 advantage. Corner kicks also went the way of the visitors as they finished ahead in that category, 7-1, including a 5-0 margin in the final 45 minutes.
Eastern Oregon keeper Jessica Parker came up with one save to pick up the shutout while Baskett was called on to make six saves in the Evergreen goal.
Both teams return to conference action tomorrow, Evergreen facing Warner Pacific and Eastern Oregon taking on Northwest in Kirkland.
