Box Score KIRKLAND – Despite putting nearly as many shots on target as the hosts, The Evergreen State College dropped a 2-0 Cascade Collegiate Conference women's soccer match Saturday afternoon to the Northwest University Eagles at NU Athletic Field.
While total shots went the way of the Eagles (6-3-0 overall, 2-1-0 CCC) by a 27-12 count, the Geoducks (2-3-1, 0-2-1) put five of their 12 on target compared to six shots on goal for Northwest.
It was the Eagles, in the end, that broke a scoreless tie with a pair of second half goals. The first came in the 49th minute from Tatyana Reveles, who finished past Evergreen keeper
Kayla Baskett from about 12 yards out. The goal was Reveles' second of the season and the assist was credited to Jubilee Zevenbergen.
With Evergreen continuing to press for the tying goal, and moments after the Geoducks were turned away on a corner kick, Northwest added an insurance goal in the 77th minute. Annie Shellerud notched her second goal of the season and her team's second of the match when her short-range shot deflected into the goal off of Baskett. Bailey Travis picked up the assist for the Eagles.
Laura Barnes led the Evergreen offensive attack with four shots, but the Geoducks were unable to get the ball past Northwest goalkeeper Lauren Hellum, who finished with five saves. The shutout was the fourth of the season for Hellum.
Evergreen returns to conference play next weekend, facing Southern Oregon in Ashland at 2 p.m. Friday and Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls at noon on Saturday.
