Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho – College of Idaho pulled away from The Evergreen State College in the fourth quarter Saturday night to register a 65-45 Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball victory inside Albertson Center.
Leading 43-37 entering the final period, the Coyotes (8-12 overall, 8-6 CCC) scored 13 unanswered points to open up a 56-37 advantage and effectively put the game out of reach for the Geoducks (4-18, 3-11), who went nearly six minutes without scoring in the decisive quarter.
Neither team shot the ball well in the first period – Evergreen was 2-for-16, College of Idaho 6-for-16 – but the Coyotes hit enough of their attempts to take a 15-6 lead after the opening 10 minutes.
The Geoducks found their stride in the second period, however, erasing their early deficit with 14 unanswered points to take a 26-21 advantage with 3:16 left before the half.
Gabi Fenumiai hit a pair of shots and
Corina Tacardon and
Zaria Jones capped the run with consecutive three-pointers from opposite corners. Evergreen was 8-for-13 from the field in the quarter, easily their best of the game.
The Coyotes did rally to take a 30-26 lead at the half, however, and added two more points to that margin in the third quarter to set up their fourth quarter surge that decided the outcome.
Autumn Moorcroft scored 14 points and both Tacardon and Fenumiai had 10 to lead Evergreen in scoring, while
Kylie Gorton grabbed a team-best nine rebounds coming off of the bench. Fenumiai's run of six consecutive double-double games came to an end as she finished with eight rebounds.
Evergreen shot 30.5 percent for the game (18-for-59) and turned the ball over 19 times, but did own a 44-39 edge on the boards.
Madison Pilster scored a career-high 22 points for the Coyotes, and she also led her team with nine rebounds. College of Idaho shot 39 percent (26-for-67), including 23 percent (7-for-31) from beyond the three-point line.
Evergreen returns to conference action at 5:30 p.m. next Friday when the Northwest Christian Beacons visit Costantino Recreation Center.
