MEN'S BASKETBALL NOTES: The Evergreen State College heads south to Oregon as it returns to Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball action this weekend. The Geoducks play the Corban Warriors in Salem on Friday and the No. 7-ranked Northwest Christian Beacons in Eugene on Saturday. Tipoff for both games is slated for 7:30 p.m.

FOLLOW THE GEODUCKS: Evergreen fans unable to attend Geoducks games, whether at home or on the road, can follow the action via live stats and/or a live video stream by clicking on the stats and video links under the Events tab on www.gogeoducks.com.

ABOUT THE GEODUCKS: Evergreen, 5-8 overall and 2-5 and in ninth place in the conference, is in the throes of a four-game losing streak that follows on the heels of a four-game winning streak. The Geoducks average 75.5 points per game and allow 80.6, and they pull down an average of 39.8 rebounds per game compared to 38.2 for their opponents. Evergreen ranks 10th in scoring offense and in field goal percentage (.439) among the 11 conference teams, and its three-point shooting accuracy (.320) is last in the CCC

GEODUCKS BY THE NUMBERS: Taylor Drey continues to lead the Geoducks in scoring with 17.2 points per game, followed by Shawn Spencer at 14.2 and Ryan Quigley at 10.5. Both Spencer (.561) and Quigley (.535) are among the top 10 in the conference in field goal shooting percentage. Quigley is the rebounding leader with 6.8 per contest, followed by Spencer with 6.6. Jarrick Mitchell leads the conference with an average of 6.6 assists per game.

HOW CAN I HELP YOU? In leading the league in assists per game, Evergreen senior point guard Jarrick Mitchell has recorded two games each with 12, nine and eight assists. In addition to his conference-leading assist numbers, Mitchell ranks fourth in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio with 6.6 assists competed to 2.7 turnovers per
game.

ABOUT CORBAN: The Warriors are 9-7 overall, and with a 2-4 conference mark are currently tied for seventh in the CCC standings. This is a team with excellent offensive capability as seen in its CCC-best .495 field goal shooting percentage and its 90.7 points per game. Additionally, and a bit of a side note, is that Corban has made at least one three-point field goal in 981 consecutive games, the longest current streak in the NAIA. The team's scoring leader is transfer junior guard Chris Martin, one of the league's best three-point shooters who averages 15.1 points per game. Joel Johnson, a 6-9 sophomore center, contributes 14.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, and his .723 shooting mark tops the conference. AJ Monterossi plays the point and averages 13.5 points and 4.1 assists per game.

RECENT RESULTS: Evergreen and Corban both won on their home courts last year after the Warriors had swept the Geoducks during the 2014-15 season. Over the past 18 games dating back to the 2007-08 season, both teams have won nine.

ABOUT NORTHWEST CHRISTIAN: The Beacons are 10-3 overall and 4-2 in the conference, good for third place. Currently ranked No. 7 in the NAIA Division II Top 25, the Beacons have won all six of their home contests. They host second-place Northwest University on Friday, one night before hosting the Geoducks. Jay Mayernick, a 6-7 senior forward, averages 14.5 points and a league-best 12.8 rebounds per game, and he is joined in double-figure scoring by junior guard Anthony Walker with 13.4, senior forward Jack Hackman with 12.4 and senior guard Brendyn Taylor with 12.2 points per game. Hackman is one of the CCC's best three-point shooters, and sophomore point guard Kenny Blackwell averages 5.4 assists per game. Northwest Christian's strength is its defense as it ranks second in scoring defense (66.8 ppg), first in field goal percentage defense (.373) and first in blocks per game (5.8). One of the primary reasons for its excellent defense is 7-0 freshman center Kylor Kelley, who averages 5.6 blocks per game, four blocks more per game than any other player in the conference. The Beacons can shoot the ball, however, ranking third in the CCC with .482 field goal shooting and first in the league with .400 three-point shooting accuracy.

RECENT RESULTS: NCU has defeated Evergreen nine out of the last 10 times the teams have played, including 83-73 and 89-85 victories last year. In 18 games played since the 2007-08 campaign, Northwest Christian has won 10 and Evergreen has won eight.

COLLEGE OF IDAHO 84, EVERGREEN 60: The visiting Coyotes, ranked No. 24 in NAIA Division II men's basketball, broke open a close game by outscoring the Geoducks by 23 points in the second half last Friday night in Costantino Recreation Center. Shawn Spencer scored 11 points and Dalton Groenewold added 10 in a losing cause.

EASTERN OREGON 98, EVERGREEN 92: In what will certainly go down as one of the best game of the year, No. 16-ranked Eastern Oregon held off the Geoducks last Saturday night in Costantino Recreation Center. Shawn Spencer scored 19 points and Jarrick Mitchell added 18 points and nine assists for the Geoducks.
