Geoducks Unable to Stay With No. 7 Beacons

Box Score EUGENE, Ore. – The Evergreen State College stayed with No. 7-ranked Northwest Christian for most of the first half before the Beacons pulled away in the final period Saturday night to record an 89-72 Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball win inside Morse Event Center.

The Geoducks (5-10 overall, 2-7 CCC) shot 47 percent from the field and led until the final minutes of the first half before Northwest Christian (12-3, 6-2) pulled ahead for good on a three-point basket with 2:23 to play in the half.

Taylor Drey poured in 23 points, Jonathan Jack-Nixon scored 13 and Dustin Meade added 11 points for the Geoducks, who lost for the sixth straight time.

Evergreen shot 48 percent from the field compared to 44 percent for the Beacons, but the hosts shot 12-for-29 from beyond the three-point line to provide the difference in the game.

Jack Hackman, who set a Northwest Christian program record with 11 three-point field goals on Friday night, was 6-for-8 from long range to score a team-high 22 points for the Beacons. Jay Mayernick added 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the win.

Evergreen returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, when Northwest University visits Costantino Recreation Center.
