Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - The Evergreen State College came as close as they have all season to their first win of the season, but in the end if was the Multnomah Lions who pulled away late to take a 74-69 Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball win inside MU's Lytle Gym.
Trailing by 11 points after a Multnomah three-point basket to open the second half, the Geoducks (0-7 overall, 0-2 CCC) scored nine unanswered points to cut their deficit to two points. They were able to get that down to just one point on four separate occasions but were unable to take the lead.
Holding a 70-69 lead, the Lions scored the game's final four points, all at the free throw line, while Evergreen turned the ball over once and missed three shots in their closing possessions.
Evergreen got the upper hand in the first half, building their largest lead at 27-18 on a
Shawn Spencer layup with 8:47 left in the period. Multnomah replied by scoring 13 of the next 15 points and eventually took a 41-33 lead at the half.
Pat Ling scored 19 points to lead the Geoducks, followed by
Ryan Quigley with 12 points and nine rebounds and Jaurence Chisholm with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Dustin Meade also grabbed nine boards for Evergreen, while Ling led the team with four assists.Â
Evergreen shot 38 percent (26-for-67) from the floor but just 18 percent (3-for-17) from three point range.
Darius Redrick led the Lions with 22 points and Grandle added 18 points and 12 rebounds.
The Geoducks next play a non-conference game at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, against Linfield College.
