Box Score LA GRANDE, Ore. – Emily Sorensen was stellar in goal with 12 saves but Eastern Oregon found a way to get one past her in beating The Evergreen State College, 1-0, in a Cascade Collegiate Conference women's soccer match played Saturday afternoon.
Sorenson and the Evergreen defense had to weather 29 Eastern Oregon shots and they were up to the task, battling in numbers to keep the Mountaineers (3-2-1 overall, 2-0-0 CCC) off of the scoreboard. The hosts got the only goal of the match, however, when Yasmin Mookerdum found the back of the net at 60:47.
Evergreen (0-6-2, 0-3-1) had several good chances, putting five of their nine shots on frame, but Eastern Oregon keeper Cyndi Cottrell was able to keep the clean sheet. Of her five saves, none was bigger than her leaping tip of
Delaney Rice's 35-yard free kick with about two minutes remaining.
Rice finished with two shots on goal and
Hunter Thomson Terrel had the other three for the Geoducks.
Evergreen returns to conference play at 1 p.m. next Saturday when Northwest University comes to Olympia for a match at Geoduck Pitch.
