Box Score PARKLAND - The Evergreen State College battled for 90 minutes and put six shots on target but could not score Friday night in dropping a 2-0 non-conference women's soccer match to the host Pacific Lutheran Lutes at East Field.
Machaela Graddy scored a goal early in each half and goalkeeper Natalie Robinson finished with six saves for the Lutes (2-1-0), a NCAA Division III tournament team a season ago.
After getting few really good looks in the first half, the Geoducks (0-2-1) put four of their six shots on target in the final 45 minutes. The team's best chance came on a rocket off the right foot of
Hunter Thomson Terrel in the 71st minute, but Robinson dove to her left and held on to the goal-bound shot. Thomson Terrel finished with two shots on goal, while
Delaney Rice put two of her three attempts on frame.
Graddy opened the scoring just 62 seconds into the match, splitting the Evergreen defense and running onto a through ball from Kaylie Rozell. Graddy beat Evergreen keeper
Emily Sorenson to the ball, touched it around her and scored from a tight right angle.
Graddy and Rozell teamed up on the other goal, that coming at the 50:47 mark. PLU enjoyed a 16-9 advantage in shots and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
Sorenson thwarted a number of PLU attacks and finished the contest with six saves.
The Geoducks return to action at noon on Sunday when they play the Puget Sound Loggers.
