Mounties, Coyotes Visit Costantino Rec Center

COMING UP: The Evergreen State College (2-13 overall, 1-5 CCC) hosts a pair of Cascade Collegiate Conference opponents this weekend inside Costantino Recreation Center. Eastern Oregon University (12-3, 4-3) visits on Friday night and College of Idaho (10-5, 4-1) is here on Saturday night, with both games slated to get underway at 7:30 p.m.

ABOUT THE GEODUCKS: Evergreen put their first conference win on the board last Friday night at Northwest Christian and hopes to build on that this weekend against a couple of talented team from the east side of the Cascade Mountain Range. Junior guard Pat Ling leads the Geoducks with 12.9 points and 3.7 assists per game, and he also contributes 4.4 rebounds per contest. Junior forward Ryan Quigley is the leading rebounder at 6.2 per game and he adds 12.4 points a game while shooting 55.1 percent from the field. Senior guard/forward Dustin Meade has found his stroke from three-point range, hitting 37.7 percent (best on the team) while scoring 9.9 points a game, while senior post Jaurence Chisholm averages 9.7 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while shooting a team-best 55.3 percent from the field.

ABOUT EASTERN OREGON: The Mountaineers have been a bit of a surprise this season, having been picked to finish eighth in the conference standings but sporting a 12-3 overall record, including a 4-3 mark in the CCC. Sophomore guard Max McCullough has been outstanding with 21.5 points per game and 85.1 percent free throw shooting, while senior guard Blake O'Donnell contributes 14.3 points and a team-best 6.6 boards per game. Another guard, freshman Jordan May, scores at a 15.7 per game clip. Overall the Mountaineers shoot 48.6 percent from the field while scoring 89.0 points per game, and they have allowed an average of 77.9 per contest. They are also a plus 5.0 rebounds per game.

RECENT RESULTS: Eastern Oregon has won 16 straight against Evergreen dating back to the 2008-09 season when the Geoducks swept the Mountaineers.

ABOUT COLLEGE OF IDAHO: The Coyotes were picked by conference coaches to win the 2017-18 men's basketball title, and they are in good shape with a 4-1 league record as part of their overall 10-5 mark. C of I scores 80.5 points per game and allows 72.1, but it is particularly good on the boards with a plus 9.8. The top players include senior forward Roosevelt Adams with averages of 12.8 points and 6.1 rebounds, senior forward Aziz Leeks with 11.4 points and 10.0 rebounds, sophomore guard Nate Bruneel with 12.2 points per game, and 5-8 sophomore guard Talon Pinckney with averages of 12.1 points and 2.0 steals.

THE SERIES: College of Idaho leads the all-time series between the two programs, 30-8, including a 14-4 record in Olympia. The Coyotes swept the Geoducks last year by 71-58 and 84-60 scores.

EVERGREEN 81, NORTHWEST CHRISTIAN 80: Pat Ling drilled a 16-foot jump shot with 8.3 seconds left and Northwest Christian's potential game-winning shot was ruled to have come after the final buzzer as Evergreen stunned the two-time defending Cascade Collegiate Conference champion Beacons, 81-80, last Friday night in Eugene, Ore. Dustin Meade was on fire in this game, shooting 8-for-12 overall, including an impressive 6-for-7 from three-point range, in leading the Geoducks with 22 points. Ling added 16 points, five rebounds and three assists, Ryan Quigley scored 13 points and Jaurence Chisholm finished with 10 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots. The Geoducks shot 47 percent overall (30-for-64), including 53 percent (8-for-15) from distance.

CORBAN 74, EVERGREEN 58: Corban never trailed in handing the Geoducks a 74-58 conference defeat last Saturday in Salem. Pat Ling was Evergreen's only scorer in double figures with 16 points, and he also led the team with six rebounds and four assists.
