COMING UP: Evergreen officially opens its 2018-19 men's basketball season this weekend with a pair of non-conference games in Oregon. The Geoducks face the Pacific University Boxers at 6 p.m. tonight in Forest Grove before playing the Linfield College Wildcats at 3 p.m. Sunday in McMinnville.
ABOUT THE GEODUCKS: Most recently, the Geoducks came out on the short end of a 96-45 exhibition loss to a NCAA Division I Utah State team that enjoyed a significant size advantage. Evergreen returns four players from the 2017-18 team that finished 5-24 overall. The top returnee is
Ryan Quigley, a 6-6 senior forward who averaged 13.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game to earn honorable mention all-conference recognition a season ago.
ABOUT PACIFIC: The Boxers defeated Evergreen by a 79-73 score last season in Olympia, and it was one of eight straight victories to open the season. The Boxers ended up 12-13 overall in 2017-18, however, but do return two double-figure scorers in Brevin Brown and Davis Holly.
ABOUT LINFIELD: The Wildcats were 16-9 last season, including a 65-55 defeat to the Geoducks in Olympia. Dempsey Roggenbuck returns to the Linfield fold after leading the team a season ago with 12.5 points per game.
WHAT'S AHEAD: Evergreen tips off its home schedule at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, against Cal-Maritime inside Costantino Recreation Center. That game follows a neutral court contest between Northwest University and Portland. One night later, again starting at 7 p.m., it will be the Geoducks against Portland Bible.
CONFERENCE COUNTERS: The Cascade Collegiate Conference schedule gets underway on Friday night, Nov. 30, when the nationally ranked Warner Pacific University Knights come to the CRC for a 7:30 p.m. contest. The following night, the Geoducks face the run-and-gun Multnomah University Lions, who are already 4-0 this season while averaging 23.5 MADE three-point field goals and 124 points per game.
