Geoducks Take it to the Wire but Eagles Win

Box Score KIRKLAND - Evergreen took the game down to the closing seconds on Wednesday night but in the end came out on the short end of a low-scoring 67-64 Cascade College Conference men's basketball decision to the host Northwest University Eagles inside NU Pavilion.

The Geoducks (4-9 overall, 0-5 CCC) started the game with an 11-0 run including five points from Elijah Fuller sandwiched between three-pointers by Brandon Kohler and Dalton Groenewold. Northwest (10-7, 2-3) responded by scoring 15 of the next 18 points to take the lead, but the Geoducks were on top for the majority of the first half.

After trailing 30-29 at the intermission, Evergreen scored the first basket of the second half, but the Eagles ran off eight unanswered points to take the lead for good and then held off a late challenge by the visitors.

Trailing 65-59 with just under two minutes to play, Evergreen got a three-point field goal from Ryan Quigley to make it a three-point game. Later, following misses by both teams and a Northwest turnover, the Geoducks got a layup with 2.7 seconds left before sending Ryan Ricks to the foul line. He hit both shots with two seconds to play and Evergreen was unable to get a good look before the final buzzer.

Quigley found his form in this contest as the senior forward scored 19 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the floor and 4-for-4 at the foul line. Elijah Fuller added 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds and Kohler added 10 points for Evergreen, which shot 53.1 percent overall (26-for-49) but just 58.3 percent (7-for-12) at the foul line.

Ricks led four Northwest players in double figures with 14 points, and Hussayn Ford added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Eagles, who shot 39.7 percent from the field, scored 21 points off of 19 turnovers and gave the ball away just 10 times.

Evergreen returns to conference action at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, when Northwest Christian University visits Costantino Recreation Center.
