The Evergreen State College men's basketball team will open the 2019-20 season this week in Portland. The Geoducks will face Division I opponent Portland State in an exhibition game on Wednesday at 7:35 p.m. Evergreen will then open the season at the Rose City Classic. The Geoducks will face New Hope Christian College on Friday at 6 p.m. and see Northwest Indian College at Noon on Saturday.
About Evergreen: The Geoducks are under the direction of fifth-year coach Tim Malroy. Evergreen is returning six players and added nine new players to the roster. Among the returners is Elijah Fuller, who averaged 11.8 pointer per game. He shot 46.2 percent from the field and 65 percent from the free throw line.
About Portland State: The Vikings are under the direction of Barret Peery, who is in his third season. PSU was 16-16 last season, 11-9 to finish tied for fourth in the Big Sky Conference. The Vikings are returning Rashaad Goolsby and Trey Wood and Kyle Greeley and brought in eight newcomers to the lineup.
About New Hope Christian College: The Deacon play in the National Christian College Athletic Association and are 3-2 on season. New Hope Christian College is under the direction of Mark Thomas. Last season the Deacon made it to the PCAC Conference Tournament and won the opening game before falling in the next game. NHCC is led by Jaylen Rose and Fernando Barron, who both were named second team last season.
About Northwest Indian College: Is out of Bellingham, Wash. This will be the second match up between the two teams. Evergreen won 117-87 in 2015.
