CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The Evergreen State College track and field teams competed in the Distance Carnival at the Oregon State High Performance on Friday, May 2.
Alauna Carstens (Jr.) placed fourth in the featured heat of the women's 5,000-meter run, while
Evan Williams (Jr.) set a personal record in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase and
Luis Esquivel (Fr.) set a personal record in the men's open 5,000-meter run.
Carstens claimed fourth place by finishing the 5,000-meter run in 16:58.35. It was the third consecutive race in which she registered a time below 17:00. Prior to Friday's meet, she had already qualified for the 2025 NAIA Outdoor Track and Feild Championships in the 5,000 and the 10,000. In Friday's featured heat, Diana Cherotich from the University of Oregon took first place in 15:23.42. Riley Buese of Lewis & Clark College (Ore.) was second at 16:36.64, and Josephine Welin from the University of Washington was third in 16:55.75.
Williams was timed at 10:20.37 in the men's steeplechase. He took eighth place in the race. Esquivel completed the men's 5,000 in 15:51.98. He lowered his personal record by 6.26 seconds. Also in the men's 5,000-meter run, Evergreen's
Max Baeder (So.) earned a time of 15:51.09.
The Geoducks were represented by
Izabelle Trefts (Jr.) in the women's open 5,000-meter run. She crossed the finish line in 19:21.76. In the men's 1,500-meter run,
Rowan Hicks (So.) from Evergreen was timed at 4:17.44.
Evergreen's will compete at the 2025 Cascade Collegiate Conference Track and Field Championships on Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10 in Ashland, Oregon. The meet will be hosted by Southern Oregon University.
