Evergreen Women's Soccer to Open Season at Pacific

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The Evergreen State College women's soccer team will begin the 2025 season on Thursday, Aug. 21 when the Geoducks take on Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. Game time at Hanson Stadium is set for 11 a.m. PDT.

Head Coach Kate Green starts her second season leading the Geoducks. She previously served as an assistant coach at Evergreen. In addition, Green played for the Geoducks in 2005, 2007, and 2008.

Top returning players for Evergreen are Alexandra Foley (Sr., D), Anna Mortensen (Jr., M), Emma Stock (Grad., D), and Anna Varela (Sr., GK). Foley was chosen Honorable Mention All-Cascade Collegiate Conference last season after scoring two goals and one assist while excelling on both offense and defense. Foley was a starter in all 16 games.

Mortensen played in 16 games with nine starts in 2024, while Stock started all 16 games and scored one goal. Stock's goal was the game-winner in a 9-1 victory over Walla Walla University.

Varela played 896 minutes in goal a year ago, while competing in 13 games, all starts. She earned 70 saves for Evergreen. Varela's career totals include 29 games played, 21 starts, and 1,698 minutes in goal. She has registered 145 saves to go along with five shutouts (two solo).

Key newcomers for the Geoducks are Madeline Dorendorf (Jr., F), Makayla Pagnotta (Jr., D) and Isabella Williams (Fr., D).

Dorendorf transferred to Evergreen from Columbia Basin College after playing at Pasco High School in Pasco, Washington. Pagnotta chose Evergreen after competing at Centralia College (Wash.) and Timberline High School in Olympia. Williams was a defender at Capital High School in Olympia before joining the Geoducks.

Following Thursday's game, the Geoducks will be off for just over a week before playing at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. PDT. The Geoducks will play their first regular season home game on Saturday, Sept. 6 against Saint Martin's University. Kickoff at Geoduck Pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
