OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Melina Grijalva (Jr., GK) from The Evergreen State College has been selected as the Cascade Collegiate Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the CCC on September 14. She received the honor for helping the Geoducks tie Simpson University 1-1 in a non-conference game at Geoduck Pitch on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Grijalva played the first half on Sunday. She earned seven saves while not allowing a goal. Her saves included several where she made outstanding plays by deflecting shots.

Evergreen and Simpson each scored one goal in the second half. Goalkeepers Katie Grisham (Sr.) of Evergreen and Jenna Sosa of Simpson were credited with the ties. The Geoducks are 0-1-1 on the season. 

Up next for Evergreen is the opening of CCC action with a home game against Oregon Tech on Friday, Sept. 18. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. PDT.
