OLYMPIA, Wash. –
Izabelle Trefts (Sr.) of The Evergreen State College has been selected as the Cascade Collegiate Conference McDonald's Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, presented by Urban Edge Network, for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 8. Trefts was chosen for her efforts at the Corban Indoor/Outdoor on Feb. 7 and the Portland Indoor #2 on Feb. 8.
It is the second time this season that Trefts has received the CCC McDonald's Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honor. She also claimed the award on Jan. 26.
Trefts, from Milford, Maine, won the 3,000-meter race walk at the Corban University meet, while finishing the event with an NAIA "A" qualifying time of 13:22.64. Her time set the NAIA women's national record (women's only race) in the event. Trefts broke her own Evergreen record of 13:33.27, set at the Concordia University Polar Dog Invite on Jan. 23 in Seward, Nebraska.
Following the faster time at Corban, Trefts remains in the top spot on this year's NAIA performance list, which she leads by one minute. She has qualified for the 2026 NAIA Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships as well as the 2026 USA Indoor Nationals.
At the University of Portland, Trefts earned a time of 5:38.80 in the mile run. The time established a personal record and moved her into seventh place on Evergreen's all-time list.
Trefts is the defending NAIA 3,000-meter indoor race walk champion. In addition, she placed second in the 5,000-meter race walk at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships last season.
"I am very proud of Izabelle and her indoor CCC Athlete of the Week selection. It is very deserving," said Evergreen Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach Joel Pearson. "Izabelle has worked incredibly hard over winter break while chasing her goal of breaking the national record and winning her third indoor national 3k race walk title. Coach Katie Burnett and I felt she executed her training, recovery, and mental/physical efforts to perfection, and all her work came to light during her 13:22.64 NAIA National Record performance. Congrats Izzy! Next stop nationals!"
This year, Trefts will be joined at the NAIA Indoor Championships by
Madison Palek (So.) and
Alauna Carstens (Jr.). Palek lowered her qualifying time by 38.56 seconds at Corban to 16:17.93, which is her personal record. Carstens qualified in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:52.49 at the UW Invite on Jan. 30.
Evergreen athletes in men's and women's track and field will compete at the Whitworth Indoor Invitational on Friday, Feb. 13 and Saturday, Feb. 14 at The Podium in Spokane, Washington. The meet will be hosted by Whitworth University.
